Leila Hekmat
Leila Hekmat is a visual artist who works in performance. Her theatrical performances, installations, and films resemble psychologically charged mystery plays, chamber dramas and musical comedies of the 60s/70s. The Los Angeles-born, Berlin-based artist art deals with gender, family, power and powerlessness, libertarian freedom, and dying societies which gather behind closed doors celebrating horror and decadent beauty in the face of doom.
Symptom Recital: Music for Wild Angels
The film premiere of Symptom Recital: Music for Wild Angels. A film about a collective of women both familiar and unique to this story and this setting. The setting and spiritual locus for these women is Hospital Hekmat. This is a facility for an illness which needs no cure. The purpose of this infirmary is to fortify existing insolence and foster growth through comic relief and buffoonery. A healing ground for the unrepentant woman.
